Neither one of us are really keen on talking about ourselves, so we really just want to put
everyone’s mind at ease to let them know that with Jay’s years of sailing experience and
my common sense (Jay has some too, but hey, I’m a woman), we’ll be VERY safe.
Although Amber (21) and Megan (19) won’t be with us the entire trip, they have been very
supportive of our decision and we look forward to the time that they will spend on the
boat. Since both girls live in Ontario, Canada (within close proximity of each other) and we
live in Seattle, Washington, I can guarantee that profits in the phone company will sharply
decline after July 31st!
Pictured here are Jay and Danica at Shilshole Bay Marina in Seattle, Amber in the V-berth
(their bedroom) and Megan (we like to call her ‘Granny’ on the boat) getting her sea legs at
the bow with Jay (just a very slight heel – it’s OK Mom, she’s safe).
Although our sailing adventure isn’t going to start until July 30th, we have lots of activities
planned in the next month with wonderful friends and family. Our trip is a dream come true
and a very exciting time, however, saying good-bye is a very hard thing to do as we have
been very blessed with the best of the best!
Here are some highlights of our ‘land’ itinerary:
July 5, 2003: Sam and Michael finally tie the knot … but we don’t understand why they’re having 2 ceremonies!
July 6, 2003: We’re off to visit Jay’s parents in Arkansas (Danica still has to beat Jay’s Dad at pool!) – we leave there July 10th to return to Seattle
July 11, 2003: We leave Seattle to fly to Toronto to spend time with Amber and Megan and all of our great friends
July 12, 2003: Another Bon Voyage party with our Canadian friends (yet again, we’ll show Jay how this is really done!). This one is in Kitchener, Ontario … thanks Bob!
July 13, 2003: Amber, Megan, Joel (Amber’s boyfriend), Jay and I pile into a rental car and start driving to New Brunswick (approximately 15 hours). My Mom (and lots of friends and family) live in New Brunswick and my brother and his family who live in Nova Scotia will be meeting us there. We’ll be in New Brunswick for approximately 5 days before heading back to Kitchener. By that point my mother will have filled us with more food and drink that is humanly possible and we’ll have a trunk full of food to feed us for an entire year (and sink the boat!)
July 21, 2003: Back on the plane to head to Seattle to spend 1 week finalizing everything before we head out.
July 26, 2003: One final Bon Voyage party with our ‘sailing’ friends! John and Birgit are hosting the get together at their home (the last invitation to their place said something about bringing our own lamp shade!)
July 30, 2003: We’re off! We’ll be in Victoria July 31st to spend some time with Danica’s brother Brian and our friend Dale …
Again, these are just highlights as we have far too many plans to list them all and we truly enjoy the time that we’re spending with everyone!
There are a number of incredible people helping us through this journey from John and Lynn collecting our mail, Deb and Ginny handling emails, our parents and families supporting us in our decision, John and Colleen creating and updating the web site and many, many others!
To everyone, thank you, thank you, thank you!
